Accolades for Jonk Fuerscher participants

Unison Secondary students competed in the National Jonk Fuerscher Science Contest on 14 and 15 March, placing the school fourth out of 30 schools for the number of participants.

Organised annually by the Fondation Jeunes Scientifiques Luxembourg, it is a prestigious event that has been inspiring young scientific minds since 1971. Participants showcase their work to the public and a jury of experts at the Forum Geesseknäppchen in Luxembourg City. The contest covers various fields, including natural sciences, social sciences and technology, allowing students to explore and present their unique ideas. Unison young scientists showcased their incredible talents and dedication to scientific exploration.

Special congratulations to Tsipora and Sophie, who won the RTL Public Choice Award and a trip to a science exchange program in Porto. Leonardo and Isabella also earned a trip to a science exchange program in Toulouse. Ido won a trip to the GENIUS Olympiad at the Rochester Institute of Technology in New York. Enayah, Bérénice, Graham, Bohdan, Julien and Biasar earned a science trip closer to Luxembourg.

Here are some of the fascinating projects our students worked on:

Biasar and Julien: Does playing a musical instrument improve short-term memory compared to non-musicians?

Enayah: Does scrolling impact short-term memory?

Bohdan: How does shopping affect mental health in teens and adults?

Sophie and Tsipora: If a river is in a rural area, an urban area, or beside a road, does it affect the amount of microplastics in it?

Isabella and Leonardo: Is it possible to create a shrapnel-proof blanket to protect people in war zones?

Graham: Is it possible to make a piece of software to assist understanding motion physics?

Ido: Modelling a V2B2G Electric Vehicle Network as a BESS substitute for National Microgrid Frequency and Stability Optimization in Luxembourg

Bérénice: The substitution of plastic with seaweed and beeswax for a healthier biodiversity
